This docket was purchased from John I. Herrick who was a bookseller and stationer who operated out of Detroit. The docket itself contains many civil cases spanning over a three year period. They are the cases tried by John Balkeom. The cases he tired are civil cases that give a brief description of the case, and damages and costs awarded. On the bottom of many of the case pages is the date that the payment was made.

The justice journal offers a narrative account of all action involving cases heard before the court. Includes names of individuals, attorneys, action, damages and costs, resulting judgment, fines and the like.
