Calhoun County Justice of the Peace Docket
Scope and Contents
This docket was purchased from John I. Herrick who was a bookseller and stationer who operated out of Detroit. The docket itself contains many civil cases spanning over a three year period. They are the cases tried by John Balkeom. The cases he tired are civil cases that give a brief description of the case, and damages and costs awarded. On the bottom of many of the case pages is the date that the payment was made.

This collection is .25 cubic feet and fits in one box.
This journal’s binding is falling apart and the pages are yellowing. Some of the pages are no longer bound and others are very close to falling out of the binding. The range that Balkeom used this docket was between the years 1845 and 1847, he did go back through and add a few later dates when debts had been paid, the latest date being 1857.

This collection comprises of a single journal. This journal belonged to John L. Balkeom who served as justice of the peace in Calhoun County. The dates in this journal range from 1845-1847, although dates were later added.
