Weavers Guild of Kalamazoo Collection
Scope and Contents
Each of the yearbooks has the guild’s logo on the front, the period of time it was for, and a piece of weaving made by one of its members taped to the inside of the front cover. The creator is credited, along with the pattern, materials, and colors used. The booklets contain a variety of information about the guild, including: current members, officers, committees, activities, a calendar of events, equipment used, rental equipment opportunities, bylaws, study groups a summary of the guild’s objectives, and member’s dues. There’s even a space in each yearbook for new members to be added, which would presumably be written in by hand until the next year, when their names can be printed. Along with their names, members’ telephone numbers and addresses are included, likely because some study groups were held in members’ homes.

Biographical / Historical
The Weavers Guild of Kalamazoo began in 1959 when participating in a clothesline art show in Kalamazoo. Their official founding was in 1968, with its first regular meeting held in the Kalamazoo Public Museum. The guild was founded by 18 people who shared common interest in the weaving craft. Besides having meetings, exhibitions, and holding workshops, the guild also holds events where members can sell their work, like their annual Christmas sale. Aside from handicrafts like ponchos, bags, mats and the like, yarn and weaving equipment were also offered. Members would also often demonstrate weaving at sale and art events, with their work hanging up nearby. Members met once a month on the second Monday, except for June, July, August, and January at 7pm at the Kalamazoo Public Museum. Members are expected to contribute a fee each year to fund events and other organization purchases, since the Weavers Guild is a nonprofit organization. Currently, the guild holds meetings at the Portage United Church of Christ.

Abstract
The collection is composed of three yearbooks from the Weavers Guild of Kalamazoo, from 1984 to 1987.
Physical Description
The three yearbooks are roughly the same size, measuring 8.5 inches by 5.5 inches while folded and 8.5 inches by 11 inches while unfolded. Overall, the yearbooks are in good condition. The weavings on the inside covers haven’t frayed at all, and two of the three remain firmly glued to the paper. The weaving in the yearbook from 1985—1986 is taped on only one side and flops over when opened, but otherwise seems intact. The pages are undamaged, and all of the writing is legible. The bindings have held up well.
