In 1978, the organization acquired a farm and began a homesteading program affiliated with Western Michigan University where many participants learned small scale organic farming and self-sufficiency skills. This program existed until 1984. Along with a newsletter, the organization has been involved with community gardens, permaculture and the Michigan Organic Food and Farm Alliance.
