Biographical / Historical
The West Douglas Neighborhood Association was formed in 1978. Until 1983 the Association shared an office with the Stuart Area Restoration Association in the Unity church. Afterwards their office space was moved to be within the Neighborhood. There are rental agreements for office space in the Mountain Home cemetery. The association held various activities for teens and youths within the neighborhood including homework help and teen zone. The association took part in the Building Blocks Program. This program was created by Kalamazoo College professor Cummings in which students would plan and organize neighborhood revitalization projects with residents. The Association helped to create a sense of community and to build the neighborhood up. In 2004 the neighborhood voted to change their name to the Fairmont Neighborhood Association. The association was involved in the building of the Fairmont Dog Park. In 2011 the association lost their tax-exempt status and in 2012 the association dissolved.
