Scope and Contents
Michigan Central Railroad (MCRR) materials include register books for Engineers and Firemen, 1913-1914, 1916-1917, 1926-1928; locomotive inspection reports, 1921-1927; Jackson locomotive inspection report, 1926. The ledger contains percentage sheets, bridge and transfer charges and division sheets relating to the Pere Marquette Railroad.

Biographical / Historical
The Pere Marquette Railroad (PMR) was formed in 1900 as a result of a merger between the Chicago and West Michigan, the Flint and Pere Marquette, and the Detroit Grand Rapids and Western Railroads. In 1947 Pere Marquette formally merged with the Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad.
The Michigan Central Railroad (MCRR) entered Kalamazoo in 1846 and operated in Michigan, Indiana, Illinois and Ontario, Canada. In 1867 the railroad was controlled by the New York Central Railroad.

The collection is composed of register books from the Michigan Central Railroad and Chicago, Kalamazoo and Saginaw Railroad and a ledger from the Pere Marquette Railroad.
Physical Description
The collection is composed of register books from the Michigan Central Railroad, Chicago Kalamazoo and Saginaw Railroad and a ledger from the Pere Marquette Railroad. The ledger is in fair condition. The cover of the ledger has several markings on it and the corners are beginning to wear. Several of the interior pages are discolored and have ripped edges. The ledger is 11" x 11.5" in size. The register books are in fair condition. The covers are worn and have several markings. The pages are discolored and have some ripped edges. The interior writing is in pencil and some of it has begun to fade and smudge. The register books range in size from 10.5" x 12" to 15" x 8.5".
