Biographical or Historical Information

In 1908 the Kalamazoo Anti-Tuberculosis Society began with one of their goals being to segregate infected patients. By September they had raised enough funds to create a tuberculosis colony on Gull Road. Residents stayed in tents or shacks for an undetermined time. Over the next year, there was news about the construction of new buildings. By 1912, plans were in the works by the City of Kalamazoo to construct more permanent buildings for a hospital for patients with tuberculosis, diphtheria, and other contagious diseases. This eventually was built in the West Douglas neighborhood and later taken over by the County of Kalamazoo.

In processing this card, Ancestry.com, Family Search and Seeking Michigan was consulted and no Robert Brody could be found living in Plainwell although a Robert Brodie was located in Kalamazoo and another in Gun Plain Township.
