Post Office Rule and Regulations
Scope and Contents
The documents in this collection are from John Van Eck and his time working for the Kalamazoo post office. During his time with the post office he served as acting postmaster and then became postmaster. Some of the documents included are the rules and regulations that post offices had to follow. More personal documents include newspaper articles about John, speeches that John wrote, certificates that he received. There are many letters received about his position as acting postmaster general 1954-1961. There is a letter from 1959 saying that John met all requirements and should be nominated as the postmaster general. He was not appointed and was no longer the acting postmaster general after 1961. In 1969 John became Officer-In-Charge at the Kalamazoo post office. Then in 1971 John became Postmaster, he held the position until he retired 1980. John died in 1989 in his home time of Kalamazoo. He had served the United States Post Office for 44 years.
