Scope and Contents

(The only known manuscript of the Book of Margery of Kempe, the oldest English autobiography, c.1440; a hitherto unrecorded English illustrated Apocalypse with 94 half-page miniatures, c.1320; Middle English manuscripts including the South English Legendary, in verse, fifteenth century; a fragment of a poem about Robin Hood; and a document of Sir John Fastolfe, 1433; Romanesque manuscripts including portions of a St. Augustine written at Canterbury Cathedral and last recorded in 1508; Jerome, Contra Jovinianum, mid-twelfth century; and an Ivo of Charters from the Library of Giovanni Visconti, Duke of Milan; two thirteenth-century illuminated Psalters, one from the Medieval Library of Rheims Cathedral; fine books of Hours including one of exceptional size, with 15 large and 47 small miniatures, Flanders, c.1450; and a hitherto unrecorded Dutch Breviary illuminated by the Master of Catherine of Cleves, Utrecht, c.1440.)
