biographical statement
Edwin W. Polk was an alumnus of Western State Teachers College (1937), now Western Michigan University. He was also a junior high teacher in the Detroit area for 40 years. Polk was a lieutenant commander in the United States Navy Reserve (12/1943 - 3/1946), and a WWII Navy veteran, having served as a PT boat officer in the South Pacific, where he received the Purple Heart.
