Jacob Hampton Civil War Letter
The collection contains one letter dated November 13, 1864 by Civil War soldier Jacob Hampton (1847-1929) from Pavilion, Michigan while enlisted in the First Regiment Michigan Engineers and Mechanics and addressed to his sister while stationed in Chattanooga, Tennessee. In the letter, he discusses daily life and reports on Confederate troop movements.

Although the majority of the letters are between 1858 till about 1920. These letters are mostly addressed to Harriet and Jerome Ashley from their children, Harriet’s siblings and their children. Harriet and Jerome lived in Calhoun county Michigan for a majority of their lives.
