Parchment School District Newsletters
Scope and Contents
The newsletters contain information about the Parchment Public Schools district, usually including a letter from the superintendent, a directory of contacts for the superintendents, school principals, and other important offices, upcoming events, sports season schedules, district calendars, school events, and more. The newsletters also usually include a blurb from an article on the activities of alumni, with the rest of the article available online. The contents vary depending on the time of year: a newsletter released in November features a homecoming article, while one from February detailed the pre-holiday break Christmas band event. A short table of contents is included at the top of each of the newsletters.

Biographical / Historical
Parchment is a small city in Michigan. Officially founded as a village in 1930 in response to workers moving closer to Jacob Kindleberger’s Kalamazoo Vegetable Parchment Company, schools were eventually established to serve the growing population. Parchment was recognized as a city in 1939 due to the population boom from the KVP’s success. Due to Parchment’s proximity to Kalamazoo, before Parchment’s own high school was built in 1959, students would often attend Kalamazoo’s high schools after completing elementary school. Parchment High School saw their first graduating class in 1961.
