Scope and Contents
The collection amounts to .1 cubic feet and is composed of one funeral note honoring Ada McAllister Poor. In addition to containing her name and death date, the piece also contains a prayer and the phrases “in loving remembrance of” and “gone but not forgotten”.

Biographical / Historical
Ada McAllister was born to Eli McAllister and Laura Young McAllister on March 4, 1881 in Lawrence, Van Buren County, Michigan. Both of her parents were from New York, and she was the youngest sibling to Arthur, Herbert, Sabina, and Duane McAllister, all children being within seven years of age. Ada was married on March 28, 1905 to a farmer, George Harold Poor, and the Poors began living with George’s parents, Simeon and Mary in Decatur, Michigan. The Poors had a son, Melvin Harold on February 11, 1906. On December 26, 1918, George died. On March 10, 1927, Ada passed away due to “Bright’s Disease”, a historical classification of kidney disease.

The note is printed and on thick cardstock, and measures 6.5”x 4.25”. There is some staining on the edges and back of the note, and the front contains some noticeable smudges from fingertips and handling. Otherwise, it is in good condition.
