American Carriage Company Collection
Scope and Contents
The collection is composed of a singular booklet advertising merchandise from the American Carriage Company of Kalamazoo, MI from 1893 along with a single photograph of the showroom. The first page contains more of the same information as the front cover, however further in there is a note from the American Carriage Co., and statements on their shipment of goods, reference, terms, how to order, and their guarantee. It also contains a description differentiating the different types of tops that a carriage could have. The remaining pages have an illustration of 8 different styles of carriage, its name, and a brief description of the carriage, its build, color, and trim.

Biographical / Historical
The American Carriage Company began in 1890 and was finally dissolved in 1920. The name had originally been American Cart Co. and was officially changed to American Carriage Co. in 1896. They made carriages, carts, wagons, buckboards, buggies, sleighs and speeding carts to be pulled by horses to transport people. They made both standard track vehicles and wide track vehicles in a number of different colors. They sold both to individuals and larger companies or businesses.

Physical Description
The collection amounts to a singular booklet about 12 pages and measure to 6⅞” x 5.” The front and back covers are made of paper. The back cover is blank, however the front cover has stars printed in black ink, as well as the logo, the location, and an additional line, which reads “wholesale Manufacturers or Road Wagons and Top Buggies.” The inside pages are printed on glossy paper and the whole thing is staple bound.
Overall, the catalog is in good condition. The cover pages have browned and stained significantly and the inside pages are slightly browned and have a few tears, but everything is perfectly legible.
The photograph is a sepia, mounted photograph showing a long, narrow room filled with carriages made by the American Carriage Company.
