Biographical / Historical
Charles S Cooley (1848-1923) was born in Stuben County, New York in 1848 to Calvin and Celinda Cooley. Not much is known about his early life, his family eventually moved to Michigan where he attached Union School and attended college at Bell's Commercial College in Battle Creek Michigan. In 1877, Charles married his wife Ella Neasmith and the couple would raise children: a son, Roy and a daughter, Hattie. In 1880 the Cooley family moved to North Dakota and were farmers and in 1895 the family returned to Vicksburg where they would remain until Charle's death in 1923 at the age of 73.

Physical Description
This collection is composed of one ledgr from Charles S Cooley from the spring and summer of 1871. The ledger consists of 385 pages and overall the docket is in very good condition, the pages have very little tearing and fading and the writing on the pages is clearly legible, but the cover is slightly deteriorated and is covered with brown markings.
The cover of the ledger is hardbound leather and is in good conditions, the pages are still connected by the spine. The demensions of the docket are "12.5x8.5x1. The spine of the book has the title, Day Book. The docket appears to be written in ink. The writing in the book appears to be work that was done while Cooley was in college at Battle Creek and used afterwards to keep track of finances, sales, orders, etc.
The calligraphy card appears to be drawn by Cooley while he attached Bell's Commercial College. The card is in good condition, there is some slight staining anf smudging. The card is placed inside of a protective plastic cover and the demension of the card is "8x5.5.
