Biographical / Historical
A Justice Docket is an official court record book which lists all the cases before the court and which may also note the status or action required for eacah case. This docket records cases from 1870 to 1871 and the owner of the docket was a Jas F. Stuck (1837-?) who was a lawyer in Allegan County in 1870. With this we can infer that Jas is tied to cases in some way.
One of the most common names that appears in the docekt is that of Alanson Case (1802-1872) who was a Justice of Peace (Judge) during the time these cases were recorded. Based on the title: Justice of Peace and the types of cases that appear in the docket, it appears that the docket is about Municipal or District Court. The docket has many different crimes listed within but the most common crimes were "Drunk and Disorderly," "Assumptionist" (Fraud) "Attachment" (Property Seizure) "Larceny," "Assault" and "Debt." The docket would normally be paired within a set/collection of volumes.

Physical Description
This collection is composed of one Justice Docket from Allegan County Appeals Court from 1870 to 1871. The docket consists of 506 pages and overall the docket is in very good condition, the pages have very little tearing and fading and the writing on the pages is clearly legible, but the cover is worn.
The cover of the docket is hardbound leather and is in good shape, the pages are still connected by the spine. The demensions of the docket are "11.5x2x16". The spine of the book has the title, Justice Docket No. 3 and has the owners name J.F. Stuck. The docket is written in ink. Each page as divided into several sections: (1) The parties involved, (2) Crime, (3) Names of Attorneys Involved, (4) Items: Damages and Costs, and (5) A description of how the case turned out.
