Wesley Krymer Collection
Scope and Contents
Wesley Krymer was born in 1835 in New Jersey. The earliest record of him in Kalamazoo city directories is 1867, when he was listed has a druggist, his store located at 6 Portage Street. He operated out of 6 Portage Street until 1881. After that his name disappears from city directories until 1885 when he is listed as Dr. Wesley Krymer residing at 211 North Park St. However, by 1887 he is simply listed as Wesley Krymer. Wesley Krymer died on April 10, 1893 in Kalamazoo. He is buried in Mountain Home Cemetery in Kalamazoo.
The Dr. Crumb’s American Pocket Journal contained in this collection was published by Wm. R. Crumb of Buffalo, New York. Crumb’s was a maker of a variety of medicinal products including compound pills, ague killer, inhalers, and balms that claimed to cure various ailments.
The back pages of the pocket journal entitled “memoranda” have the names of Pavilion School District students written in pencil with tally marks next to the names. The first two pages in this section list Pavilion School District No. 5-Spelling 1st class names as follows: Clara Stevens, Ella Goostrey, Maud Thompson, Kate McDougal, Freddie Briggs, Thomas McDougal, Lillie Goostrey, and Joanna Robinson. The next page lists the 2nd spelling class as follows: Elery Briggs, James McDougal, Lillie Courtney, Ida ?, Rosa Stevens, Mary Briggs, and Nettie Briggs. The very last page of the booklet also lists three names: Nellie McDougal, Vinnie Stevens, and Florence Hamley. It is unknown to which of these persons if any, this book belonged to.

Physical Description
This collection amounts to 0.05 cubic feet of space and is comprised of one Crumb’s American Pocket Journal booklet published in 1874. The booklet measures 3 ¾x5 ¾,” and is in fair condition. There is wear around the binding and edges of the booklet and a small tear on the top left corner of the front page. There is also staining on the top back cover and surrounding edges made by blue ink.

This collection is comprised of one Dr. Crumb’s American Pocket Journal published in 1874 by Wm. R. Crumb of Buffalo, New York and sold by Wesley Krymer, Druggist located at Kalamazoo, Michigan.
