Bangor High School Viking Press Collection
Scope and Contents
This collection is comprised of one Viking Press student newspaper from October 9, 1959 and one Viking Press student newspaper from November 6, 1959, both from Bangor High School located in Bangor, Michigan.
The October 9, 1959 issue features news about the Homecoming festivities that week, an editorial on Key Club, social news that included “Pam Distefano and Lynn Geresy are now taken off the steady list,” and “Just before the band was to perform at Western, Janet Boreham broker her clarinet,” as well as sports headlines and Bangor High School in pictures.
The November 6, 1959 issue features news about the upcoming Bangor Public Schools open house, the Sadie Hawkins Dance, Senior Profiles, the “Joker’s Column,” and sports news.

Biographical / Historical
The Viking Press was a newspaper written, edited and compiled by students of Bangor High School. It featured important headlines, sports, entertainment and social news articles of interest to the students.
Language of Materials
This collection amounts to 0.05 cubic feet of space and is comprised of one October 9, 1959 and one November 6, 1959 issue of the Viking Press, printed for Bangor High School students. Both newspapers measure 8 ½”x11” and are in good condition except for minor yellowing and marks where the pages were stapled together. The October issue is 7 pages long and the headline reads “Ready Homecoming Plans.” Also on the front page is a picture of the homecoming court. The entire paper is type-written in black and white. The November issue has a headline reading “Open House Set for 12th” and also has a photograph of freshman football player Pete Pifer on it. The paper is 12 pages long and is also type-written in black and white.
