Scope and Contents

Neil Verburg, also sometimes spelled Verberg, lived in Kalamazoo. The 1920 Census indicates he was 30 years old then which would put his birth year approximately 1890. He lived in Kalamazoo and worked in a variety of professions. In 1917 he is listed as an agent for Metropolitan Life. He also was a timekeeper. There is no entry for him in 1924 although the 1920 census had him living in the Battle Creek area with his wife Beulah. By 1926 he is listed as a realtor, building and loans at 108 W. South Street where he was until 1929. There is no directory in 1930 and in 1931 his office is listed at 244 S. Burdick. So the booklet was produced approximately between 1926 and 1929. The booklet is filled with a variety of jokes, quotes, quips and goals. There is a chart which shows how a monthly payment schedule for homeowners would add up for them along with excerpts from the Realtor’s Code of Ethics.

There is one photograph of a Dutch Colonial but there is no identification as to where this is located. The cover of the booklet says, “Realtors Ripples” Compliments of ‘The Biggest Little Real Estate Office in Michigan.’ Ground Floor 108 W. South St. It appears that this booklet might be a stock booklet that realtors could get then add some statements or pages that are appropriate for the locality.
