Physical Description
The rules cover a wide range of subjects including collection of rent, behavior of children, noise, disposal of waste and a liability notice. In addition, there is a list of what residents should not do including not to throw food in the court or in front of the building and not use gasoline inside any of the apartments and that rugs can be shaken from windows and fire escapes. The Marlborough Apartments at 471 West South Street was completed in 1924. Designed by Billingham and Cobb and built by Henry VanderHorst, it was Kalamazoo’s largest apartment complex of the day. It also included office space at the street level. Beginning in the early 1980s, both the apartments and offices were converted into condominiums.
General
Also see A-3294 the Marlborough Condominium Association for the blueprints of the building. This accession was not added to that collection because A-3294 was directly from the Marlborough Condominium Association.
