Kalamazoo Oratorio Society
Scope and Contents
The Kalamazoo Oratorio Society was founded in 1955 by a group of individuals who were interested in bringing the message of Christmas to life through an inspiring oratorio performance of George Frederick Handel’s Messiah. The Society’s annual performance began a tradition that would grow to become one of the area’s largest non-professional arts organizations. In the 1960s, the Society added a spring performance of other major oratorios that steadily developed its national and international reputation.

Physical Description
The collection amounts to 0.25 cubic feet contained in one half-sized Hollinger box with 4 folders comprised of documents including letters, announcements, articles, member files, notes, programs, insurance, and title abstract.
A majority of the documents are printed on white paper size 8½” x 11” with a few exceptions, including smaller colored programs and the larger insurance and title abstract. Most of the collection is in good condition, however, the insurance and title abstract has a creased center from being folded and its edges are worn from age.
Provenance
The collection contains documents from the Kalamazoo Oratorio Society dating from 1977-2012. The files were donated by Marcia Rogers on October 28, 2016.
