Scope and Contents
“Precision Tools and Dies” is a general informational/ advertisement booklet for the American Tool & Die Works company located in Kalamazoo, Michigan from 1937 to roughly about 1955. This booklet provides a map displaying the company’s wide variety of distribution around the area of Kalamazoo, reaching as far as Indiana, Ohio, and various cities in the northern and eastern areas of Michigan. The booklet also contains some images, including the building of the company, and several of the employees at work throughout the building. The booklet provides a list the different services of the company, along with its equipment. The last page of the booklet gives a list of some of the companies that are clients of American Tool & Die Works, and a stamp at the bottom that reads, “Pratt & Whitney Aircraft Corp., Kansas City, Mo.”

Biographical / Historical
American Tool & Die Works was established around 1937, where it specialized in machine builders and full information on engineering tools. By 1950, it became the American Tool & Engineering Company under new ownership and was located at 222 W. Ransom St. in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Here is when they specialized in tool and die manufacturing, as well as aircraft engineering. This shift in specialty could explain why this specific booklet had the stamp from the Pratt & Whitney Aircraft Corp., Kansas City, Mo. 222 W. Ransom St, Kalamazoo, Michigan is also the address listed inside of the booklet, putting the time of distribution of the booklets around 1950.

Physical Description
This collection amounts to .05 cubic feet and is composed to one informational booklet that is 9” in height and 6” in width from the American Tool & Die Works company titled, "Precision: Tools and Dies." The cover consists of a thin cardboard, held together by two staples, and the paper on the inside being thick and smooth. The booklet overall is in good shape, however there is some rusting to the staples.
