L.S. Dooley, Jeweler Ledger
Scope and Contents
From the business statement we know that his Jeweler store was for some time located at 49 N. Main Street, Three Rivers. By 1964 it appears that Dooley had moved his business to a new location at 111 ½ W. Michigan Street. This may have been caused by new jewelers moving into the area, as seen within the 1964 Telephone Directory which has three jewelers all listed on N. Main Street. Although this directory does not list Dooley’s store.

Physical Description
The ledger was made by Shaw’s, which is a product of the Wilson-Jones Company. Its dimensions are 14” x 8 ¼” x1 ¾”. The ledger’s front and back covers are black with red leather corners as well as a red leather spine. The corners and edges of the ledger are frayed and the front pages have come loose. The most damage is to the spine which has become unglued from the ledger. The first pages of the ledger are labeled A through Z, offering an alphabetically ordered list of names of clients in index form.
These are the pages that have started coming loose. On the pages after are the repairs or work that Dooley has done for his clients. Starting in 1943 the ledger ends in 1960. Inside of the ledger where two envelops, a credit statement from the Three Rivers Credit Bureau, some paper with a few names on it, a receipt, a “L.S. Jeweler” statement slip and a post card from a personal friend.
