Typographical Auxiliary Booklet

 Item
Identifier: RH-A-4032

Scope and Contents

The Typographical Auxiliary of Kalamazoo was a social organization consisting of women whose husbands were Kalamazoo printers and members of the International Typographical Union. The women held monthly business meetings, held at the homes of various members, elected officers, and formed internal group committees. In the years recorded in the journal, 1939-1945, members of the Typographical Auxiliary contributed to war efforts by sewing utility bags for soldiers, volunteering weekly at the local Red Cross, purchasing war bonds with organization funds, and hosting a stamp drive. Details of officer reports are not recorded, but there are mentions of working with the Federation of Labor and the Kalamazoo Gazette. There are also mentions of members attending state and national conferences, but details of the event are not included.
