Physical Description
This series amounts to 0.10 cubic feet of space. The return envelope is cream in color with black printing. The return address is stated as “the Henderson-Ames Co., Kalamazoo, Mich. The words “I.O.O.F. Lodge No. 70 are printed in the bottom left corner. The envelope measures 6”x3 ½” and is in good condition with no signs of wear. The fold and glue to seal the envelope are still intact, suggesting the envelope had never been used.
The catalog published in 1897, is 8”x11 ½” and is cream in color with red and white printing. The words “the Henderson-Ames Company Paraphernalia, Regalia and Costumes for I.O.O.F. Lodges” appear on the front cover along with a picture of man in an I.O.O.F. uniform. The back cover of the catalog lists all the various types of uniforms and regalia that Henderson-Ames manufactured for various organizations. The catalog is in fair condition with signs of wear especially on the binding wear it has torn at the top and bottom. However the inside pages are in better condition with minimal wear and discoloration.
Two of the fabric samples for “famous Kalamazoo band uniforms” measure 8 ½” x 10” while the third measures 13 ½”x8 ½.” All three were once folded in thirds for mailing. They are cream in color with black printing which reads in part (from the first sample card): “Samples of the Famous Triple “000” Range of All Wool Cloths for the low price, high quality Famous Kalamazoo Band Uniforms.” There are eight swatches of wool fabric attached to the two smaller cards of varying colors. The larger card has twelve wool fabric samples attached to it. The back of the cards which would have been the outside cover when folded for mailing, shows a photograph of the Henderson-Ames Co. factory, additional advertising and space for writing an address.
