Scope and Contents
This collection includes news clippings and other materials collected by Grace Davi's mother, the later Alma Powell from the early 1930s to the late 1960s.
The articles range in chronological order from the early 1930s to the late 1960s. They provide local, state, and national news, events, and perspectives. Alma Powell's articles also provide a snapshot of African-American history in Kalamazoo and nationwide. Through her work with the Kalamazoo Human Relations Committee, various neighborhood associations, the Kalamazoo Public Library, and Kalamazoo schools, Mrs. Powell chronicles the development of the African-American community in Kalamazoo through her articles and personal commentaries.
