The issue of the journal is a section of the first issue of volume 47 of the Journal of Negro History. Tate published the lead article in the issue entitled "Slavery and Racism as Deterrents to the Annexation of Hawaii, 1854-1855". The article is stapled to the cover. The other articles are not present.

The booklet was edited by Clement Wood and is entitled "The Best Humourous Negro Stories". Wood was an immensely productive writer who wrote on many subjects, academic and popular, including pornography. The stories contained in the booklet are brief, no more than one to two paragraphs.
