Scope and Contents

From the Collection:

The letters in this collection contain mostly love letters between Dale and his new wife Helen while Dale was stationed at Camp Miniawaca naval camp in Shelby, Michigan. There are other letters sent to Dale by his mother, Alice, his brother Bill and friends while he was away. There are other letters that are to both Helen and Dale from various people. Dale Edward Rosel was born June 3rd 1927 to William and Alice. He attended Churchill High School. He and Helen married in 1945 and had their first son, William later that year. Helen was born July 20th 1928 in Michigan. Helen and Dale had 6 children. Dale died February 16, 1990 and Helen died November 5th, 2006. Most of the letters that are in this collection are from 1945 there are a few from 1946 and one from 1969. Most of these letters are addressed to Conklin Michigan, where Dale and Helen lived. There is a document in the collection that is math homework from and Elizabeth Roach sent to a James K. Bennith, there does not seem to be a connection between these two people and the Rosel family. This document also seems to be considerably older than the documents in the rest of the collection. There are also a few documents that are not letters including drawings, graduation invitations and loan cards taken out by Dale. There are three loan cards, the first one was taken out by just Dale in 1956. The other two were taken out by Dale and Helen in 1956 and 1957. In the collection there are also a few graduation invitations addressed to Helen in 1945, the year she graduated.
