Father Lawrence C. Braceland, SJ (1912-1987) was a Canadian Jesuit who wrote on a variety of topics relating to the history of the Roman Catholic Church and produced translations of the works of several Cistercian fathers. Father Braceland entered the Society of Jesus as a novitiate at Ignatius College, Guelph in 1929 and was ordained as a priest in 1943. He attend Regis College in Toronto between 1933 and 1936, receiving a BA at Loyola in 1934 and Licentiate in Philosophy in 1936. He completed an MA in Classics at University of Toronto in 1939. He lectured in philosophy and classics at Regiopolis College and eventually became a professor at Ignatius College, Guelph between 1948 and 1963 where he also served terms as Librarian and Dean. In 1963, he was appointed Dean, Registrar and full-time professor at St. Paul's College, University of Manitoba.


After retiring from University of Manitoba in 1978, much his research was focused on translating the works of the Cistercian fathers, including Aelred of Rievaulx, Gilbert of Hoyland, Serlo of Savigny and Serlo of Wilton. His translations were published by Cistercian Publications. He also regularly presented papers at the Conference on Cistercian Studies, which takes place annually in Kalamazoo, Michigan along with the International Congress on Medieval Studies.
