Biography

Charles Kinkle was a founder and musician. Born 1832 in Rheinpfalz, Germany, he moved to Shelbyville in 1858 to teach music; married Florence Norvell Dec. 1, 1864; became a charter member of the St. James Episcopal Parish in 1858, joined by his wife and their children Florence and Karl; major factor in the music of the church between 1858-1891 as pianist, composer, and song leader; chosen to be president of the Citizens Bank in 1858. He died 1891.
