Ellen Louise Emig was born July 12, 1926 in Detroit, Michigan, the daughter of Jay Emig and Leah Mae Jonson Emig. Ellen graduated from Bronson School of Nursing in 1949. She married Paul Clayton Shank on June 18, 1950.
