Biography
The Grand Circuit began in 1871 in Cleveland, Ohio with meetings beginning in 1873. In 1908 Kalamazoo became the smallest city on the Grand Circuit Racing tour. The competition was held at the Recreation Park which had been founded in 1903 by a group of men headed by William P. Engleman (1856- 1938). Mr. Engleman served as the secretary of the Recreation Park for the duration of the Grand Circuit programs. Kalamazoo participated for 24 seasons from 1908 until 1932 when Kalamazoo formally withdrew from the Circuit for financial reasons.
