Biography

G. Willig & Co. is an imprint of George Willig. In 1794, George Willig (1764-1851) took over the Philadelphia-based (John Christopher) Moller & (Henri) Capron, which was founded in 1793 and was the first music publisher in America. Willig operated the firm until his death; it was taken over by Lee & Walker in 1856.

In 1822, Willig acquired the Baltimore publisher Thomas Carr, which his son (George Jr. [1794-1874, not 1879]) ran from 1829 until his death. It continued to operate under the same name after his death. (source fo description: https://imslp.org/wiki/George_Willig)
